چکیده

We present a search for ten baryon-number violating decay modes of Λ hyperons using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Laboratory. Nine of these decay modes result in a single meson and single lepton in the final state (Λ → mm) and conserve either the sum or the difference of baryon and lepton number (B ± L). The tenth decay mode (Λ → ¯ pπ +) represents a difference in baryon number of two units and no difference in lepton number. We observe no significant signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions of these reactions in the range (4 − 200) × 10 −7 at the 90% confidence level.

Polarization of Hyperons in Elementary Photoproduction

Recent measurements using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab of the reactions γ+p → K+Λ and γ+p → K +Σ have been used to extract the spin transfer coefficients Cx and Cz for the first time. These observables quantify the degree of the photon circular polarization that is transferred to the recoiling hyperons in the scattering plane. The unexpected result is that Λ hyperons are produced “100% po...

Low energy supersymmetry with baryon and lepton number gauged

We investigate the spontaneous breaking of the Baryon (B) and Lepton (L) number at the TeV scale in supersymmetric models. A simple extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model where B and L are spontaneously broken local gauge symmetries is proposed. The B and L symmetry breaking scales are defined by the supersymmetry breaking scale. By gauging B and L, we understand the absence of ...

Impact of Hadronic Decays of the Lightest Neutralino on the Reach of the Cern Lhc

If R-parity is not conserved, the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) could decay via lepton number violating or baryon number violating interactions. The latter case is particularly insidious since it leads to a reduction of the E/T as well as leptonic signals for supersymmetry. We evaluate cross sections for jets plus E/T , 1`, 2` (same-sign and opposite sign) and 3` event topologies that ...

Double beta decay of Σ− hyperons

We compute the strangeness-conserving double beta decay of Σ hyperons, which is the only hadronic system that can undergo such decays. We consider both, the lepton number conserving Σ → Σeeν̄ν̄ (ββΣ2ν ) and the lepton number violating Σ → Σee (ββΣ0ν) modes. The branching ratios of these ββ decays are suppressed at the level of 10 considering a light neutrino scenario in the case of the ββΣ0ν chan...

Using The CLAS Detector

Two charged pion final states are studied for photons incident on protons. The data come from Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility using the CLAS detector. A tagged photon beam of 0.5-2.4 GeV/c was produced through bremsstrahlung radiation and was incident on a lH2 target. This analysis looks at the reaction γ p → pπ+π− using a partial wave analyis to identify intermediate baryon reso...
